9 Double Standards Women Often Face

Image
Double standards are the eternal reason for human suffering. for instance, studies have proven that due to gender inequality within the financial market, men have more advantages over women. Time goes by, but it looks like prejudices stay stuck in many people’s heads. We believe that one day, our society will outgrow stale stereotypes and people will become kinder. We hope that our honest illustrations will help you reconsider some things. 1. There are double standards in society when it comes to makeup. When people see a woman who wears makeup, they may perceive her as fake and even “cheap,” but if a woman doesn’t apply any makeup at all, she may be considered a wallflower who doesn’t want to attract men’s attention. 2. Women are still being told that their main duty is taking care of the family. But even housewives suffer from people who like to say spiteful things about them and judge, let alone women who put their careers first. 3. For some reason, it might...

Auto parts makers shine spotlight on aluminium's role in electric vehicles

Image
A faster-paced energy transition through a speedier shift to electric vehicles has created a new, substantial demand stream for aluminium and major opportunities for auto supply chain firms flying under investors’ radar. Previously shunned in favour of cheaper steel, aluminium consumption in electric vehicles is expected to accelerate over coming years as COVID-19 hastens the move to a green economic recovery. Significantly lighter than steel, aluminium is now the metal of choice in a range of parts - from the chassis, structural components such as the shock tower and internal panels to housing for motors and the batteries that power electric cars. Aluminium producers such as Rusal, Rio Tinto and Glencore with access to large amounts of metal are set to benefit. Not as well known, but also in pole position are firms making the components. They include Mexico’s Nemak, Canada’s Linamar and France-based Constellium. Sitting on both sides is Norsk Hydro, which produces alumi...

EU's Barnier confident deal with Brexit Britain is possible: sources

Image
The European Union’s Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier expressed confidence at a closed-door meeting with national envoys to the bloc that a new deal with Britain was possible, diplomatic sources told. Michel Barnier, European Commission's Head Barnier’s comments after the latest round of EU-UK negotiations last week stand in sharp contrast with the downbeat assessment he delivered publicly in saying that London’s rigid positions on fisheries and the level playing field guarantees of fair competition meant a deal was “unlikely” for now. Further highlighting that the internal EU analysis of the latest in the tortuous Brexit process may be more sanguine than some officials have suggested in public, Barnier’s comments were echoed by Ireland and the Netherlands, according to the sources, who are familiar with last Friday’s discussions. Envoys for the two EU countries — expected to take the biggest hit from any change in trade rules following Brexit — said they ...

7 Things We Shouldn’t Do to Please Someone for Our Own Sake

Image
To be liked and accepted by society, we often try to show that we are flawless. But it’s important to know that no one is born perfect. We cannot please everyone around us and we shouldn’t even try to do that. When we embrace ourselves as we are, rather than being what others want us to be, we attract genuine happiness and genuine relationships. We compiled a list of things we should stop doing to impress others and live more fully by prioritizing ourselves more. 1. Humblebragging doesn’t make you look modest. © Dating Around / Netflix Humblebragging is seen more like false modesty. A study claims that people who humblebrag are more insincere. Humblebragging seems more like part show-off and part-complaining which is nothing more than just being plain annoying. If you want to show off, just brag directly. 2. Traveling to show off, rather than exploring and being in the moment © Friends / Warner Bros. TV Distribution Another study claimed that people us...

12 Harsh Truths Almost All of Us Tend to Neglect

Image
Childhood, a time when we’re taken care of as fragile and vulnerable people is quite different than adulthood. As adults, we begin to follow a new set of rules and understand over time that we’re interested in ourselves only. There’s no one to push us toward success, give us their shoulder to cry on, or praise us when we’ve done something good. And ultimately, there are always going to be people who are smarter, better, and more attractive than us. We took a risk and collected simple truths we’ve all come to understand at some point or another in our lives. 1. There’s no point in sacrificing yourself for others. Have you ever heard the phrase, “Everything I do, I do it for you”? As a rule, it’s followed by a cold answer, “But did I even ask you to do that?” Let’s be honest: the people around us don’t need our sacrifices. Most often, they feel awkward and become irritated by this obtrusiveness. The only exception to this situation is codependent behavior — when both...

Blow for EU as Apple wins fight against $15 billion tax order

Image
Apple scored a major win on Wednesday as Europe’s second-highest court rejected an EU order for the iPhone maker to pay 13 billion euros ($15 billion) in Irish back taxes, dealing a blow to the bloc’s attempts to crack down on sweetheart tax deals. In its order four years ago, the European Commission said Apple benefited from illegal state aid via two Irish tax rulings that artificially reduced its tax burden for over two decades - to as low as 0.005% in 2014. “The General Court annuls the contested decision because the Commission did not succeed in showing to the requisite legal standard that there was an advantage for the purposes of Article 107(1) TFEU1,” judges said, referring to EU competition rules. They said the EU executive was wrong to say Apple’s two Irish subsidiaries - Apple Sales International (ASI) and Apple Operations Europe (AOE) - had been granted a selective economic advantage and, by extension, state aid. Apple welcomed the ruling, saying the case wa...

Google offers data pledge in bid to win EU okay for Fitbit buy

Image
Alphabet Inc’s ( GOOGL.O ) Google has offered not to use health data of fitness tracker company Fitbit to help it target ads in an attempt to address EU antitrust concerns about its proposed $2.1 billion acquisition, the U.S. tech company said late on Monday. The bid, announced in November last year, would help Google take on market leader Apple ( AAPL.O ) and Samsung ( 005930.KS ) in the fitness-tracking and smart-watch market, alongside others including Huawei [HWT.UL] and Xiaomi ( 1810.HK ). “This deal is about devices, not data. We appreciate the opportunity to work with the European Commission on an approach that safeguards consumers’ expectations that Fitbit device data won’t be used for advertising,” Google said in an emailed statement. Reuters reported last week that such a data pledge may likely help Google secure EU approval for the deal. While the deal has drawn heavy criticism from privacy advocates on both sides of the Atlantic, on concerns that Google ...

The Most Weird and Famous Unsolved Mysterious Case

Image
The most mysterious unsolved case has to be the Dyatlov Pass Incident. The Dyatlov Pass incident happened in the year 1959 in which nine Soviet hikers were mysteriously killed, and the mystery is still unsolved. The incident happened in the Kholat Syakhl mountain in the Ural mountain ranges in Russia. Above is the image of one of the hikers who went hiking through the Dyatlov Pass. The Mansi tribe (native tribe) referred to these mountains as the Mountain of the dead. All nine bodies were found but in mysterious situations. Two of the hikers had fractured skulls and their ribs were broken. One of the hikers had her tongue, eyes, and lips cut off from her face and chest fractures. Another striking discovery that came when the forensics reports came out was the clothes of these hikers were radioactive. The forensic reports also revealed that the amount of force that was required to cause such fractures must have been equivalent to the force of a car crash. It was als...

William Chester Minor: The Most Talented Mental Patient In History Of Psychology

Image
We would say that William Chester Minor was the most talented mental patient in history, but also he was certainly one of the most prolific.  William Chester  Minor was born in the British colony of Ceylon, as Sri Lanka was then called. His parents were American Congregationalist missionaries from New England and he seems to have had a happy and relatively normal childhood. As soon as he turned 14, he was sent ‘home’ to complete his education at New Haven’s Russell Military Academy. After graduation, he went on to study medicine at Yale. When the US Civil War began, he was commissioned in the Union army and served as a battlefield surgeon. His experiences at the Battle of the Wilderness may have triggered his mental instability. Even by Civil War standards, it was a horrifyingly bloody affair and casualties were enormous. Civil War dressing stations and field hospitals were sometimes little more than a wooden table and the back of a horse-drawn field ambulance. ...
