Pregnant woman in pain stopped from entering ER by cops after husband honked at them for blocking entran

Image
DORAL, FLORIDA: In a piece of shocking news, Sabrina Enciso, a seven-month pregnant woman, was stopped by Miami-Dade cops from going to the Emergency Room at Jackson Memorial Hospital's West Campus. This was even after she begged them, saying, "I think I'm going to miscarry." She and her husband, Kevin Enciso were stopped for over 20 minutes by the cops. Earlier, Kevin was driving his wife to the Jackson Memorial Hospital as she had been involved in a car accident the day before and was in pain. Approaching the ER, he noticed two cop cars blocking the entrance of the parking lot. In a rush, he honked at the officers to give way to their car after which one officer immediately moved out of the way. The second officer, on the other decided to conduct a traffic stop and refused to allow them to pass through. In the video footage, the 32-year-old mother-to-be insisted that she felt she was in danger of miscarrying and was also in a lot of pain but the officer paid no heed...

Florida activist wants to donate Arabic ‘In God We Trust’ signs to Texas schools

Image
Southlake’s Carroll ISD and others have received signs with the motto in English, which a state law requires them to post if donated. A Florida activist is raising money to send Texas schools “In God We Trust” signs — in Arabic. The effort comes as schools across the state are posting signs with the national motto to comply with a law Texas Republicans passed last year in an attempt to enforce conservative, Christian values in public schools. Senate Bill 797, authored by Mineola Sen. Bryan Hughes, requires schools to display the posters in a “conspicuous place” if they are donated. On Sunday, Chaz Stevens launched a GoFundMe campaign, “Messing with Texas,” to raise $10,000 for the posters with the motto in Arabic. “We really could use your help in our quest to battle Texas’ latest law — ‘In God We Trust’ signs in public schools,” Stevens said in a tweet. “Our project will send hundreds of these posters across the Lone Star state.” Stevens is the founder of the Mount Jab Church of Mars,...

‘Predator’ former Met police officer jailed for 24 years for 13 rapes in offences against three girls

Image
Former swimming coach Anthony Smith was a serving police officer when he raped and assaulted the youngsters. A former Met Police officer who sexually abused and raped three teenage girls - including one aged 13 - has been jailed for 24 years. Anthony Smith, 56, began a campaign of abuse decades ago in which he raped and sexually assaulted the youngsters over a four-year period. At the time of the crimes, Smith was a serving officer with the Met Police and the three girls were between 13 and 17 years old. Smith left the Met in 2004 after he was convicted of gross indecency with a child under 16 in a separate case. He also worked as a swimming teacher in Llandudno, Wales, before joining the police in 1987. An investigation was launched after one of the women came forward in 2020 and reported she had been abused by Smith as a teenager. The other two victims then came forward as a result shortly afterwards, Surrey Police said. During a three-week trial that finished on June 30, all three v...

Fed-Up Judge Gives Animal Abusers A Taste Of Their Own Medicine

Image
A judge, who was fed-up with animal abusers, decided to give them a taste of their own medicine as he handed down their sentences. His unusual but appropriate punishment has the internet saying all animal abusers should be forced to stand before this judge. What a hero! Judge Michael Cicconetti with his dog Kasey Michael Cicconetti is more than just an Ohio judge. He is an animal lover with a soft spot for our furry friends ever since getting his first dog. Herman, a dachshund-mix, was Cicconetti’s best friend throughout his childhood, and Kasey, a 10-year-old Bernese mountain dog, is the judge’s current companion. His passion for animals isn’t confined to home, however. It spills over into his courtroom too. As an animal lover, Judge Cicconetti finds it particularly difficult to see animals being neglected or abused. Sadly, that’s exactly what happens thousands of times every day all over the world. What’s worse, very few of those responsible are ever given appropriate sentences. Howe...

Man Sentenced to Nearly a Century’s Worth of Prison Time for His Role in 2016 Execution of 16-Year-Old Boy in the Woods

A 21-year-old from Palmer, Alaska, convicted alongside three others in the 2016 kidnapping and murder of 16-year-old David Grunwald was sentenced Wednesday to a total of 105 years in prison with 30 of those years suspended. Bradley Renfro, also 16 years old at the time of the killing, was found guilty in 2018 of murder, kidnapping, and arson in Grunwald’s death. Erick Almandinger, 22, Dominic Johnson, 22, Austin Barrett, 25, initially trapped Grunwald in a bathroom during the Nov. 13, 2016 incident, authorities have said. The victim was pistol-whipped, kidnapped, and murdered in the woods. Prosecutors said Almandinger supplied the .40-caliber gun used to pistol-whip Grunwald after the victim went to Almandinger’s home and smoked marijuana with his soon-to-be killers in a camper behind the residence. “After the beating, Grunwald was driven for nearly half an hour in his own vehicle, walked into the woods near the Knik River, and executed,” the State of Alaska Department of Law said in a...

World's smallest and most endangered sea turtle found nesting on Louisiana islands for first time in 75 years

Image
Kemp's ridley sea turtles used to thrive in the Gulf of Mexico, but since the mid-1900s, populations have dwindled so much that they are now the world's most endangered sea turtle species. But now, a small chain of barrier islands off the coast of Louisiana is offering hope. For the first time in 75 years, sea turtle hatchlings were found on the Chandeleur Islands, Lousiana's Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority announced on Wednesday. So far they have found more than 53 sea turtle crawls and two live hatchlings were seen heading to the water. "It's an exciting discovery," CPRA executive director Bren Haase said. "And we hope to see additional hatchlings emerging in the weeks and years to come." The department said that additional nests could be discovered in the coming weeks as sea turtle nesting season just finished peaking in July. Hatchlings usually emerge around two months after eggs are laid. Kemp's ridley sea turtles are the world...

Man Tried To Sodomize 2-Year-Old Girl In Public, Mom Pummels Him With Her Fist

Image
A mom was watching her kids play on the playground when she noticed this guy “eyeballing” them. Suddenly, as her 2-year-old daughter sat on a swing, the guy picked her up, pulled down her diaper, pulled down his pants, and attacked her. He almost immediately regretted that decision. William Bates Jr made a Missouri mother become rather concerned as she watched him wander onto Kemp Playground in Kansas City, Missouri, without any kids of his own. While there with her children, things would take a terrifying turn for Christa Moore as Bates approached the woman’s toddler, ripping off the child’s diaper — and the horror that unfolded next sent the mother running. The swings where the horrific chain of events unfolded. Out for an afternoon of fun, the mother did as many others do and found a quiet spot to sit nearby and watch her children as they were let loose on the playground. Unfortunately, she wouldn’t be able to relax and take a load off for very long. Before she knew it, she’d be run...

In a single month, the James Webb Space Telescope has seen the oldest galaxies, messy cosmic collisions, and a hot gas planet's atmosphere

Image
The James Webb Space Telescope only been fully operational for a month, but in that time, it's allowed astronomers to peer father into the universe than ever before and changed how we see the cosmos. Often described as the successor to the Hubble Space Telescope , Webb launched on December 25, 2021, after more than two decades of development. Since that time, the $10 billion telescope has traveled more than 1 million miles from Earth and is now stationed in a gravitationally stable orbit, collecting infrared light. By gathering infrared light, which is invisible to the human eye, Webb is able to cut through cosmic dust and see far into the past, to the first 400 million years after the Big Bang. The James Webb Space Telescope's first deep field infrared image, released on July 11, 2022.NASA, ESA, CSA, and STScI. Since the telescope released its first batch of images in July, it's been flooding researchers with observations of distant cosmic objects. For astronomers, these ...

'Ring Nation' Is Amazon's Reality Show for Our Surveillance Dystopia

Image
Amazon's newest effort to normalize its surveillance network will feature footage from Ring surveillance cameras and commentary from comedian Wanda Sykes. Amazon's propaganda campaign to normalize surveillance is about to hit a higher gear: Wanda Sykes is going to host a new show featuring videos taken from Ring surveillance cameras, Deadline reported on Thursday. It will be called Ring Nation. The show is being produced by MGM Television, which is owned by Amazon, and Big Fish Entertainment, which ran another dystopian reality show: a piece of copaganda called Live PD which centered on the commentary of police footage. According to Deadline, the show will feature lighthearted viral content captured on Ring cameras, such as "neighbors saving neighbors, marriage proposals, military reunions and silly animals." These types of videos frequently go viral online, but hardly represent the reality of what Ring is used for. Besides home surveillance, Ring is a source of surv...

Image
A pedophile who was serving 17 years behind bars for abusing babies and young children has been found dead in prison. Jared Perry was found dead on November 3 while in custody at Parc Prison in Bridgend, Wales. It is understood the paedophile, Perry – who was jailed in January after pleading guilty to a string of se*ual and indecent assaults on children – had attempted to take his own life and later died in hospital. The 32-year-old was said to be an ‘extremely high risk’ to children when he was locked up. Ian Coles, deputy director of HMP Parc, said: ‘On 3 November 2019, Mr Perry passed away in hospital. ‘As with all deaths in custody, this will be investigated by the Prison and Probation Ombudsman.’ Swansea Crown Court heard Perry abused both boys and girls. Some of the children he targeted were less than six months old. The court heard the abuse only came to the police’s attention when Perry walked into Aberystwyth police station and asked to speak to an officer. Over the course of ...

People in the United States strongly associate vegetarianism with whiteness, study finds

Image
New research published in the Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin provides evidence that people in the United States hold racial stereotypes about vegetarianism. The findings indicate that vegetarianism is perceived to be a “White” behavior. “Vegetarian diets offer a lot of benefits — they can improve health, support environmental sustainability, and reduce the amount of suffering experienced by nonhuman animals,” said study author study author Daniel L. Rosenfeld , a PhD candidate at UCLA. “As plant-based foods (like the Impossible Burger and Beyond Burger) become more mainstream and propel cultural shifts toward more vegetarian lifestyles, it’s important to consider how racially inclusive these lifestyles seem.” “For quite a while before conducting this research, I’d noticed that beliefs about race were intertwined with beliefs about vegetarianism. In many media instances, for instance, it seemed like vegetarians were stereotypically depicted as White people, especially white...

Florida man ‘Redbeard’ steals $1,800 parrot, abandons it, authorities say

Image
A Florida man known locally as “Redbeard” is facing charges after he kidnapped his roommate’s parrot and left it injured and alone at a bus stop, authorities said. Justin Peters, 40, of Summerland Key, was arrested Tuesday after pilfering the eclectus parrot — named Piper — from a 37-year-old woman in June and has been charged with grand theft and animal cruelty, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. The $1,800 bird’s owner told police that she instructed Peters to never let it out of her cage or remove it from their residence. On June 14, she called police to say Piper had been stolen. The day before that, a witness told deputies that he spotted a man, later identified as Peters, at a bus stop and later noted that he was gone — but left the bird behind on a bench. The man scooped up the parrot and called authorities and attempted to locate the bird’s owner, police said. The sheriff’s office said a witness reported seeing a man at a bus stop near his business. The man disapp...

Helen Bailey murder: Remembering 'more than a victim'

Image
Helen Bailey - author, widow, fiancée, dog owner, football fan - was found dead in July 2016. The man she loved, Ian Stewart, drugged and suffocated her before throwing her body into a cesspit. But those who knew and loved her do not want her to be remembered for how she died. "The world has lost a gifted author". The words of Helen Bailey's brother John were repeated by the judge at St Albans Crown Court when he sentenced Ian Stewart to 34 years in prison. Her skills as a writer had shone through when she started blogging following the death of her husband John Sinfield in 2011, getting to know people from across the country as she chronicled her life as a widow. Here, some of those people share their memories of her: 'Her words resonated' Laraine Mason met Ms Bailey online following the death of John Sinfield and Ms Mason's own husband. "We were all part of this community of bereaved people, and she was welcomed into it, but it soon became apparent she ...

A 9-Year-Old Girl In Arizona Died From A Lice Infestation — And Now Her Mother And Grandmother Are Facing Murder Charges

Image
Sandra and Elizabeth Kraykovich were charged with first-degree murder following the death of Sandra's daughter, Kelcye, from anemia brought on by an untreated case of lice. Two Arizona women are facing first-degree murder charges after the nine-year-old girl in their care died — from a massive lice infestation. Sandra Kraykovich, 38, and her mother Elizabeth Kraykovich, 64, were both charged after Sandra’s daughter Kelcye was found dead in their Tucson home on March 22, according to state Department of Child Safety documents . The local fire department was called at around 2:30 a.m. for an unresponsive child at the women’s apartment on East Golf Links Road and were unable to revive the nine-year-old girl. The police were called when it became apparent that the living conditions in the home were dangerous — and emergency responders found “a large amount of bugs on her face.” Two other children, 11 and 13, were also in the home that investigators described as filthy. Widely Mocked Anti-Piracy Ads Made People Pirate More, Study Finds

Image
A behavioral economics study of anti-piracy ads reveals that they’re largely ineffective and often encourage piracy. An infamous anti-piracy ad from 2004 tried to convince us all that downloading a pirated movie is no different than stealing a car. We’ve all seen it, but according to a new study published in The Information Society, we were not convinced. In fact, the study found that by hugely overstating the negative impact of piracy, the ad may have caused people to pirate even more. As first reported by TorrentFreak , the study, “Doing more with less: Behavioral insights for anti-piracy messages,” took particular aim at a 2004 public service announcement created by the film industry. The study is a critique of the entertainment industry’s attempts to curb piracy viewed through the lens of behavioral economics. It asks how movie, music, and TV studios could have spent so much money on a campaign and failed so spectacularly. The biggest reason is that pirates don’t think they’re doi...
