Scientists Reveal a Multidimensional Universe Inside the Human Brain

Image
Scientists have found the Human brain can create structures in up to 11 dimensions. These dimensions, however, are not seen in a classical sense. A study published in Frontiers in Computational Neuroscience has revealed that the human brain’s structures operate in up to 11 dimensions . The dimensions are not understood as the classic definition of a dimension, which most of us understand, the Blue Brain Project explains. A study by the Blue Brain Project discovered fascinating new details about the human brain’s complexity. “We found a world that we had never imagined,” explained neuroscientist Henry Markram , director of the Blue Brain Project and professor at the EPFL in Lausanne, Switzerland. A universe of multidimensional structures inside the brain The image attempts to illustrate something that cannot be imaged — a universe of multi-dimensional structures and spaces. On the left is a digital copy of a part of the neocortex, the brain’s most evolved part. On the right are shapes ...

Uvalde school shooting: What we know about the victims

Image
The shooting was Texas' deadliest school shooting in history. At least 21 people were killed Tuesday in what is now considered the deadliest school shooting in Texas history . This happened at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, which is about four hours away from Houston. Nineteen of the victims were students. What we do know is that Robb Elementary School has nearly 600 students in the second, third and fourth grades. Typically, students in those grades are between 6 and 10 years old. The vast majority of the students at Robb Elementary are Latino. It was not immediately clear how many people were wounded, but Uvalde Police Chief Pete Arredondo said there were “several injuries.” Eva Mireles Eva Mireles was one of the first victims identified in the Uvalde school shooting. She was a fourth-grade teacher. She has been described as a loving mother and wife who lived life to the fullest. “She was adventurous. I would definitely say those wonderful things about her. During a traffic stop, police said they noticed blood inside the vehicle driven by 28-year-old Julissa Thaler. Further investigation led officers to discover the little boy's body in the trunk A Minnesota mom is behind bars after authorities allege she killed her 6-year-old son and drove around with his body stuffed in the trunk of her car. On Friday, the Orono Police Department conducted a traffic stop in Mound, Minn., after officers witnessed a woman "driving on one rim and a shattered-out windshield," Chief Correy Farniok told reporters. During the stop, police said they noticed blood inside the vehicle driven by 28-year-old Julissa Thaler. Further investigation led officers to discover the little boy's body in the trunk. According to Hennepin County Jail records, Thaler is currently in custody and has formally been charged with murder. Police said another unidentified individual was also arrested. In addition to the vehicle, investigators are processing multiple c...

The Chilling Case Of Cindy James, The Nurse Found Dead After Six Years Of Disturbing Harassment

Image
From threatening phone calls to violent attacks, Cindy James suffered years of terror before her death — though some investigators think she may have staged every bit of it. In 1982, Canadian nurse Cindy James received a strange phone call. She had no idea it was the beginning of a chain of events that would lead to years of vicious harassment and only end with her death. Over a six-and-a-half-year period, James would file nearly 100 complaints with local police for property damage, threatening notes, home invasions, arson, and even violent attacks. But investigators could never determine the source of the harassment. The Vancouver suburb of Richmond was rattled when James’ body was found in the yard of an abandoned home in June 1989. She was beaten and bruised, and she had a lethal dose of morphine in her system. However, police ultimately determined her death was a clear-cut suicide, despite the fact that her hands and feet were bound behind her back. James’ family and friends were i...

Ex-Cop Pleads Guilty To Manslaughter In George Floyd's Death

Image
A former Minneapolis police officer pleaded guilty Wednesday to a state charge of aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter in the killing of George Floyd. A former Minneapolis police officer pleaded guilty Wednesday to a state charge of aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter in the killing of George Floyd. As part of the plea deal, Thomas Lane will have a count of aiding and abetting second-degree unintentional murder dismissed. Lane, along with J. Alexander Kueng and Tou Thao, has already been convicted on federal counts of willfully violating Floyd's rights during the May 2020 restraint that led to the Black man's death. The state is recommending a sentence of three years for Lane and has agreed to allow him to serve the time in a federal prison. Their former colleague, Derek Chauvin, pleaded guilty last year to a federal charge of violating Floyd's civil rights and faces a federal sentence ranging from 20 to 25 years. Chauvin earlier was convicted of state ...

This Unstable Double Binary Star System Could Implode Into a Type Ia Supernova

Image
Multiple star systems are very common in the Milky Way. While most of these systems are binary systems consisting of two stars, others contain three, four, or even six stars. These systems tend to be pretty stable since unstable systems tend to break apart or merge fairly quickly, but sometimes you can get a kind of meta-stable system. One that lasts long enough for stars to evolve while still being stable in the end. And that end could be a supernova. It all comes down to gravitational dynamics. In Newtonian physics, two orbiting masses in isolation are always stable. The only paths they can have are elliptical orbits. This is why simple binaries are the most common multiple star systems. Once you have three or more masses, things get more complicated . So complicated that there isn't an exact solution to the three-body problem, much less four or more. Fortunately, we can make highly accurate orbital models. So while we don't have an exact solution for multiple star systems, i...

'Mind-boggling' scrambled genome found in octopus and squid. It could explain their smarts.

Image
Cephalopods have been breaking the rules with their genomes. Squid, octopus, and cuttlefish have scrambled-up genomes that may help explain how these cephalopods evolved the most complicated nervous systems of any invertebrate. New genetic sequencing reveals that these animals' genes are mixed up, and arranged in strange orders not seen in other, non-cephalopod species. This DNA mixing and matching may have given evolution a new sandbox to play in, study co-author Caroline Albertin, a biologist at the University of Chicago Marine Biological Laboratory, told Live Science. "A hypothesis is that these new gene arrangements resulted in new expression patterns and that means these genes could be used in a new place or in a new way," Albertin said, referring to the process of a gene being "expressed" or activated to create proteins that do some type of work in the body. Those new opportunities, in turn, could explain some of squid and octopuses' incredible abi...

Man Charged With 865 Counts of Child Rape Found Dead in Prison Cell

Image
Bloom abused the boy for many years before the victim came forward. Bloom Charged With 865 Counts of Child Rape Garrick Landon Bloom, a 48-year-old Tallahassee facing 865 counts of child rape, was captured by Florida police at a local homeless shelter in 2019 after a young boy reported that he had sexually abused him for years. The abuse began when the 11-year-old boy was 5-years-old. Police searched for him for more than one month before locating him in Florida. He had fled from Pennsylvania when he learned that the victim reported the abuse to the police. Yes, read that slowly and let it sink in: eight-hundred, sixty-five counts of child rape. Those charges included 120 counts of statutory sexual assault of a child 11 years or older, 96 counts of statutory sexual assault, and aggravated indecent assault of a child. Bloom Faced 15,000 Years In Prison He faced 15,000 years in prison if convicted of all the charges. Bloom was a pervert but not stupid so when prosecutors offered him a 4...

Florida man guilty of first-degree murder after hiring hitman to kill wife

Image
A Florida man was found guilty of first-degree murder on Friday after prosecutors said he hired a hitman to gun down his pregnant wife five years ago. Jurors started deliberating the fate of Euri Jenkins, 35, Thursday afternoon, then returned at 9 a.m. Friday and met for about an hour before reaching a verdict. Prosecutors said Jenkins hired hitman Joevan Joseph, 24, to shoot and kill Makeva Jenkins, 33, while she was sleeping in her bed in the couple’s Lantana home in June of 2017. During closing arguments Thursday, the state argued Jenkins was the mastermind behind the shooting and wanted his wife dead so he could collect her life insurance money. “This has been a long struggle for me. And what has happened to my daughter has affected my life and the life of my family,” Gloria Harold, Makeva Jenkins’ grandmother, said in court Friday. Harold told Judge Kirk Volker and the court she has “nothing bad” to say about Euri Jenkins and that all she wanted was justice for her granddaughter....

A Father Spent 30 Years Trying To Avenge His Daughter, Then Pulled It Off Brutally

Image
A father’s love knows no bounds. André Bamberski, a French citizen, would have moved heaven and earth for his daughter Kalinka Bamberski - a fact that became clear after her untimely and mysterious death. The teenage girl had been staying with her mother, Danièle Gonnin, and her stepfather, Dieter Krombach, when she suddenly died on July 9, 1982. An autopsy couldn't determine the cause, but Bamberski was certain it was the work of Krombach. He set off on a relentless quest for the truth , one that lasted 30 years, cost him his job, and alienated his family and friends. How far would Bamberski go for justice? What would this grief-stricken father do to the man who took his wife and presumably raped and killed his 14-year-old daughter? His unbelievable true story raises questions about vigilante justice and paints a grim and heartbreaking portrait of a man's thirst for vengeance. André Bamberski's Wife Left Him For Her Lover The Bamberski family lived in Morocco in the early...

Man Rapes And Murders 8-Year-Old Girl — Inmate Gives Gruesome Welcome

Image
A man was sentenced to life in prison for the brutal rape and murder of an 8-year-old girl. However, not long after starting his lengthy sentence, the child-killer was welcomed with a particularly sinister homecoming surprise courtesy of his cellmate. On May 13, 1997, Kirsten Renee Hatfield was abducted from her home in Mid West City, Oklahoma, before suffering an unspeakable fate. The 8-year-old girl was reportedly taken by Anthony Palma, a man who lived just two houses away, before being horrifically raped and murdered to cover up his crimes. After nearly two decades, the crimes once considered a cold case resulted in DNA testing narrowing down the list of suspects to Palma, who was finally arrested at the same house in which he’d been living since he had kidnapped the little girl. Thanks to blood extracted from the victim’s panties, which were found in her backyard, Palma was ultimately identified as her killer in 2015. Raymond Pillado. Granting the long-suffering family justice, An...

75 years ago, Hitler invaded Poland. Here's how it happened

Image
On September 1, 1939, the German army under Adolf Hitler launched an invasion of Poland that triggered the start of World War II (though by 1939 Japan and China were already at war ). The battle for Poland only lasted about a month before a Nazi victory. But the invasion plunged the world into a war that would continue for almost six years and claim the lives of tens of millions of people. Today, 75 years later, Hitler is regarded as one of history's great villains. So it's easy to forget how slowly and reluctantly the world's most powerful democracies mobilized to stop him. France and Britain did declare war on Germany two days after the invasion of Poland, but it would take them another eight months before they engaged in a full-scale war with the Nazis. The United States wouldn't join the war against Hitler until December 1941, a full two years after the war began. Why did Adolf Hitler invade Poland? The short answer is that Adolf Hitler was a ruthless dictator with ...
